A boat carrying asylum seekers sank near the southern Greek island of Gavdos, leaving one person dead and 25 others still missing.
According to a report by the Greek media outlet To Vima, a total of 77 passengers were on board the vessel.
Following the shipwreck, the Greek Coast Guard successfully rescued 51 people alive.
The Greek Coast Guard and the European Union's border agency, Frontex, are jointly conducting search and rescue operations to locate the missing individuals.
The search is being carried out using four vessels, an airplane, and a helicopter.
Greek authorities have not yet disclosed the nationalities of the rescued migrants, but reports indicate that the survivors have been taken to the island of Crete.
The Greek broadcaster ERT reported that search operations for the missing began on Monday.
However, adverse weather conditions are severely hampering rescue efforts.
Meanwhile, Greece enforces strict laws regarding undocumented immigrants.
Foreigners who enter the country without proper documentation face long-term administrative detention, penalties, and rapid deportation procedures.
