India has clarified its position regarding reports that Dhaka is reviewing 101 bilateral agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed with the previous government led by Sheikh Hasina.

New Delhi stated that it is closely monitoring the developments and will take all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests.

The remarks were made by Indian Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in response to a question during a regular weekly press briefing in New Delhi on Friday afternoon (September 18).

Answering a question from an ANI journalist, Jaiswal noted that while the matter has been covered in the Indian media, Dhaka has not yet communicated anything officially.

The reports have come to India's attention, and the country will do whatever is necessary to protect its interests under the circumstances.

Previously, on September 11, Chief Whip of the National Parliament Nurul Islam Moni stated that the 101 agreements and MoUs signed with India during Sheikh Hasina's tenure are under review. He mentioned that the full outcome of the review will be officially announced soon.

During the same briefing, the Indian foreign spokesperson also addressed the 30-year Ganges Water Sharing Treaty signed in 1996, which is set to expire in December 2026.

When asked about the progress of discussions regarding the renewal of the treaty, Randhir Jaiswal stated that the two countries have a Joint Rivers Commission (JRC) to handle water-sharing and river-related matters, and continuous technical-level meetings between the two nations remain ongoing.
