Downpours abated in Thailand’s capital on Sunday, though inundation persisted across numerous low-lying districts, compelling thousands of inhabitants to relocate to temporary emergency shelters.

Nationwide, at least eight fatalities have been recorded over the preceding ten days.

Multiple days of intense rainfall triggered widespread flooding throughout Bangkok, impeding traffic flow and commercial activities, with cumulative precipitation exceeding 30 centimeters (11.8 inches) across extensive sections of the city.

Thailand’s Meteorological Department anticipated moderate to heavy rainfall across several regions on Sunday, while noting that meteorological conditions are projected to clear starting Monday.

Municipal officials in Bangkok have established over 200 temporary relief centers, accommodating approximately 3,000 displaced individuals as of Sunday, while floodwaters continued to obstruct 31 roads across the capital.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt indicated that rainfall had subsided and municipal personnel were actively working to discharge the accumulated water as rapidly as possible.

Nevertheless, he cautioned that water levels across major canals remained elevated, with several continuing to swell due to inflows from adjacent territories.

Chadchart added that several low-lying sectors of the capital, particularly suburban neighborhoods, remained submerged, leaving residents in certain localities with no choice but to evacuate.

Meanwhile, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that more than 545,000 individuals across 25 other provinces were affected by the inundations as of Sunday, with central and eastern regions suffering the most severe impact.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul stated that continuous rainfall had inundated drainage networks in numerous localities, instructing responsible agencies to implement swift measures to alleviate the crisis and extend relief to impacted communities.

Consequently, multiple long-distance rail and bus operations were halted owing to the submerged infrastructure, whereas airports maintained operations despite travelers encountering intermittent delays.
