A horrific explosion has occurred at a police station in Srinagar, located in India-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
The blast took place on Friday (November 14) around midnight local time within the premises of the Nowgam Police Station.
The incident has resulted in the deaths of at least 7 people and left approximately 30 others injured.
News outlet India Today reported that the condition of several injured people is critical, leading officials to fear that the death toll may rise further.
CCTV footage of the incident circulated on social media shows the police station building shaking violently from the explosion, with fire and black smoke spreading everywhere.
Citing officials, the report stated that the blast occurred while explosive materials recovered from Faridabad were being tested within the police station compound.
Indian media sources have indicated that a large stock of confiscated Ammonium Nitrate, which was recently seized in connection with a 'white-collar' terror module case in Faridabad, Haryana, was being stored inside the station.
The explosion happened while police and forensic teams were examining the material. Several vehicles within the police compound were also damaged in the process.
India Today mentioned that the bodies of the deceased have been taken to the Police Control Room in Srinagar. Rescue operations are still ongoing to check if anyone is trapped beneath the debris.
Investigators reported that the intensity of the explosion was such that parts of human bodies were found scattered nearly 300 feet away from the blast site.
