Rape Cases Must Be Tried Within 90 Days: Law Advisor

Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Advisor Dr Asif Nazrul has emphasized that rape case investigations must be completed within 15 days, and trials should conclude within 90 days.

Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Law on Sunday (March 9), he stated that investigating officers must complete their work within the stipulated time to ensure swift justice.

Condemning the recent incident involving Achiya in Magura, Dr Nazrul said, "We are taking concrete steps to ensure justice. The government is fully committed to a speedy trial."

Reassuring the public, he added, "No criminal will evade justice. To expedite trials, the government is amending laws on violence against women. Recent cases of mob justice and moral policing have been addressed, with arrests already made and ongoing operations to apprehend others. All incidents remain under government surveillance."

Dr Nazrul also announced that the police would soon launch a dedicated hotline to report sexual harassment in public places. Additionally, the government is closely monitoring all recent rape cases to ensure swift and fair trials.
