Law Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul has emphasised the need to simplify Bangladesh's judicial system. Speaking at an event held at the Judicial Administration Training Institute for assistant judges and equivalent officials, he said judges must fulfil their responsibilities even when adequate facilities are lacking.
"Judges have no room for injustice," he stated. "Responsibility does not depend on convenience. They must perform their duties regardless of limitations.”
Acknowledging existing challenges in the judiciary, Dr Nazrul urged judges to put in their best efforts within those constraints. "We must make the justice system more accessible and efficient," he added.
He also suggested enhancing the Judicial Administration Training Institute so that it attracts trainees from other South Asian countries. "In the past, during the Awami League government, many used this platform for political speeches," he noted.
In response to a question from journalists after the event, Dr Nazrul addressed the case of Hasnatul Islam Faiyaz, a 17-year-old student arrested during the quota reform protests. He said the Ministry of Law has requested a speedy investigation into the case. However, until the investigation is completed, the ministry cannot take further action.
"There are two confessional statements under Section 164 in this case," he said. "Why they haven't been withdrawn in eight months is a question for the concerned authorities. Faiyaz's brother was not given any promises, but he was informed about the legal process."
