Innocent sent to jail; High Court summons 4
The High Court has summoned four people including Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Director General over the incident of sending one innocent person to jail in a case filed with ACC. The court issued rule to know why the wrong accused Jahalam will not be released. It also asked the concerned persons to answer the rule within four weeks.
Justice F R M Nazmul Ahsan and Justice K M Kamrul Kader delivered the order on Monday.
ACC Director General (Legal) Maidul Islam, plaintiff of the case, representative of Law Secretary and representative of Home Secretary were asked to give explanation after appearing before the court.
Innocent Jahalam is in jail for near about three years. The name of the convict in this case is Abu Salek. There are 33 cases against Salek for 18 and half crore taka forgery of Sonali Bank.
But innocent Jahalam is serving jail term and appearing before court instead of Abu Salek. He is a jute factory worker by profession. At present ACC is saying that Jahalam is innocent, it is proved. National Human Rights Commission also opined the same.
In fact Abu Salek was involved in the forgery. He opened 10 bank accounts with fake address. Of those there was a fake address of Jahalam’s nearby village. That turned Jahalam’s life miserable. Because, there was similarity between their faces. All the associated- bank and ACC officials identified Jahalam as Abu Salek.
Jahalam told police and before the court that he is Jahalam not Abu Salek but nobody paid attention to him.
Later during the investigation of Human Rights Commission it came into light that Abu Salek and Jahalam are not the same persons.
