The High Court has issued rule asking why not the decision of cattle meat import will not be declared as against the law because there is plenty of production in the country.
On Wednesday after primary hearing over the writ the HC double bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader issued the rule.
Lawyers Kamruzzaman and Nazmul Huda stood for the writ petitioner. Assistant Attorney General Mohammad Saiful Alam represented the state. Md. Mosabbir Hossain filed a writ petition in this connection last week.
Later lawyer Nazmul Huda said, the High Court wanted to know why not the decision of importing cattle meat will not be declared as against the law as there is adequate supply and excess production and why not the order will be given to ensure quality of safe meat and to ensure safe fodder for the cattle.
He also said, according to the information of livestock directorate the demand of meat in the country is 72.94 lakh metric tons, whereas the production in the country is 75.14 lakh metric tons. But according to the media reports the government has decided to import meat of cattle.
