43 Students Competing for Each Seat at DU

In the Arts, Law, and Social Science Unit of Dhaka University, 125,418 students compete for 2,934 seats, meaning intense competition with 43 candidates vying for each seat.
The admission test is being conducted today, Saturday (January 25), from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. The exam is simultaneously taking place at eight divisional universities nationwide, including Dhaka University.
Students began arriving at their examination centres early in the morning. The seating arrangements for the test were published in advance.
The admit card includes important instructions for candidates:
- Candidates must bring the original copies of their admission test admit card and higher secondary registration card.
- Only black ink ballpoint pens are permitted for writing on the question and answer sheets while using pencils is strictly prohibited.
- Electronic devices, such as calculators, watches, mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, or other communication gadgets, are banned in the exam hall. If any candidate is found in possession of such devices, their test will be cancelled immediately.
The test is 100 marks long and divided into two sections: 60 marks for the multiple-choice question (MCQ) section and 40 marks for the written section. The subjects covered include Bangla, English, and General Knowledge.
The application process for admission opened on November 4, 2024, and closed on November 27, 2024, at midnight.

3,206 Teachers, Staff Included in MPO Scheme; 2,842 Granted Higher Pay Scale
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education has approved the inclusion of 3,206 newly appointed teachers and staff from various private educational institutions into the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme.
This decision was made on Sunday, January 12, during the January MPO Committee meeting, chaired by Professor Dr AQM Shafiul Azam, Acting Director General of the Directorate.

KUET Admission Test Results Published: How to Check
The results of the undergraduate first-year admission test for the 2024-25 academic year at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) have been published.
The results were released on Wednesday night (January 15). They can be accessed on the university's website at https://adm.kuet.ac.bd/notice.
Earlier, the KUET admission test was held on January 11. Although the university conducted exams under an engineering cluster in previous years, this year the exam was conducted independently, witnessing a record number of participants.
The admission test was held in 447 rooms across 11 centers, including KUET. This year, 24,527 students competed for 1,065 seats, with 23 candidates vying for each seat.
MBBS Admission Test Results Published
The results of the MBBS admission test for the academic year 2024-25 have been published. A total of 131,729 candidates participated in the admission test this year. Among them, 60,095 candidates have passed for both government and private medical colleges. The pass rate is 45.62%.
On Sunday (19 January) afternoon, the Senior Information Officer of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, disclosed this information.
According to a press release, the MBBS admission test for the academic year 2024-25 was held on 17 January. This year, a total of 135,665 applications were submitted online application for participation in the test. Among them, 131,729 candidates appeared in the exam. This year, students will be admitted to 5,380 seats in 37 government medical colleges and 6,293 seats in 67 approved private medical colleges.
The passing score for this year's admission test was 40. Out of the participants, a total of 60,095 candidates passed the test, with a pass rate of 45.62%. Among the successful candidates, 22,159 were male, which is 36.87% of those who passed, while 37,936 were female, comprising 63.13% of the successful candidates. The highest score achieved in the test was 90.75.
How to Check the Results
The Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME) will publish the result information on its website https://dgme.portal.gov.bd/. Additionally, successful candidates will receive the results via SMS on their mobile phones. The results will be sent to the mobile numbers provided during the application process.
Earlier on Friday (17 January), the MBBS admission test for the academic year 2024-25 was held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The test took place at multiple venues across 19 centres in the country.
Proposal to Reduce Bengali Marks to 100 in BCS Written Exam
Candidates participating in various BCS exams have proposed reducing the marks for the Bengali subject in the BCS written exam from 200 to 100.
On Thursday, January 16, at a stakeholder discussion titled "Thoughts on What Kind of BPSC We Want and Necessary Reforms," held at the PSC office in Agargaon, Dhaka, BCS exam candidates put forward this proposal.
In their reform proposal for the written exam, the candidates suggested either setting the Bengali exam to 100 marks or conducting separate exams for Bengali Paper I and Paper II. They emphasized shifting focus from rote memorization to analytical and creative writing.
Additionally, it was proposed to allow at least a two-week break before the technical written exam and to offer candidates the option to change their exam centers before the written test. Instead of setting a passing mark of 450 for the written exam, they suggested pre-announcing how many times the number of candidates will be passed. They also proposed that examiners should evaluate answer sheets at the PSC premises rather than sending them home.
Candidates also made proposals for reforms in the preliminary and oral exams.
Preliminary Exam Reform Proposals:
The notification for each BCS could specify how many candidates will pass the preliminary exam.
Candidates could be informed of their marks along with the cut marks via SMS with their preliminary exam results.
After the BCS preliminary exam, a draft answer sheet could be uploaded to the PSC's website for seven days. If candidates find any errors, they could email the PSC with references. After this process, the PSC could upload a final answer sheet and begin OMR checking, similar to the West Bengal Civil Service.
Indicating on the question paper whether rough work can be done on it would help candidates. Many examination centers do not allow rough work on the question paper due to unclear instructions, which increases the risk of failure for candidates.
Candidates requested that question papers be provided at the end of the exam.
PSC Chairman Professor Mobasser Monem remarked that this was a historic day as such workshops or discussions with students had never been held before. He expressed the intention to conduct more of these activities in the future. The suggestions and opinions for reforms and changes from the students would be taken seriously, and appropriate recommendations would be implemented.
Members of the commission, the Secretary of the Commission Secretariat, and related officials were also present at the event.
MBBS Admission Test / Application for Result Re-evaluation Starts Tuesday: How to Apply
The results of the MBBS admission test for the 2024-25 academic year in public and private medical colleges were published on Sunday, January 19.
The re-evaluation process for these results will begin on Tuesday, January 21, as announced by the Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME) in an official notice.
Application Window and Fee
Applicants can submit requests for re-evaluation from January 21 to January 25 by paying a non-refundable fee of BDT 1,000 through SMS using a Teletalk prepaid mobile number.
