Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit the grave of July martyr Abu Sayeed in his native village of Babanpur, Pirganj next Monday.
This visit was confirmed on Wednesday by the party's organizing secretary for the Rangpur Division, Principal Asadul Habib Dulu, as well as the tour's coordination director, Captain (retd) Ganiul Azam.
The visit is part of a comprehensive four-day tour of the northern region beginning on January 11 when Tarique Rahman will travel by road from Dhaka to Bogura.
The itinerary continues on January 12 with a journey from Bogura to Dinajpur via Pirganj, followed by a stay in Thakurgaon.
On January 13, the Acting Chairman will visit Panchagarh, Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat before spending the night in Rangpur. He is expected to return to Dhaka via Bogura on January 14.
Throughout the trip, Tarique Rahman will pay his respects at the graves of iconic figures and martyrs, including veteran politician Moulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani and Taiyaba Majumder while also meeting with the families of those killed or injured during the July Uprising.
To prepare for the visit, a divisional-level meeting was held at the Rangpur Chamber Board Room, chaired by Principal Asadul Habib Dulu and attended by BNP-nominated candidates for the upcoming for the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election 2026 from all 33 constituencies in the division.
Leaders have been instructed to mark the visit as a historic event, though they emphasized that the tour is not intended for political campaigning.
Local leaders, including Saiful Islam and Md Shamsuzzaman Samu, noted that while excitement is high among activists, the party is avoiding large-scale public gatherings to ensure strict adherence to the election code of conduct.
Rangpur District BNP convener and candidate for Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) Md Saiful Islam said that the party's acting chairman is coming to visit the grave of July Uprising martyr Abu Sayeed in Pirganj of Rangpur on Monday.
"All kinds of preparations are underway to welcome Tarique Rahman. However, no big arrangements or gatherings are being held so that the election code of conduct is not violated," he said.
