A local leader of the Swechhasebak Dal was killed after being punched by a Jubo Dal activist during a dispute over the ranking of names on a party program list.

The incident occurred on Friday evening (January 30) in the Trishkahniya area of Kanchan Municipality, Rupganj.

The deceased, identified as Azahar, was the Senior Vice President of the Ward No. 9 Swechhasebak Dal in Kanchan Municipality. He was the son of Abdul Khalek from the Narabo area.

The altercation took place during a preparatory meeting at the Ward No. 9 BNP office for an upcoming party program scheduled for Saturday.

• The Dispute: A heated argument broke out between Sabuj, the President of the Ward 9 Swechhasebak Dal, and Rajib, a Jubo Dal activist, regarding whose name should appear first on the official event list.
• The Assault: The argument escalated into a physical fight. Rajib and his associate, Hasan, reportedly attacked Sabuj, Azahar, and several others.
• The Fatality: Azahar collapsed on the spot after being punched. He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, where the attending physician pronounced him dead.

Official Response
Following the news of his death, local BNP leaders visited Azahar's home to offer condolences. Law enforcement has also intervened to maintain order in the area.

Sabjel Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rupganj Police Station, confirmed that a police team was dispatched to the scene immediately. The body has been sent to the morgue for an autopsy, and legal proceedings against the accused are currently underway.

Internal tensions within political wings have occasionally surfaced as the country approaches the national elections on February 12, prompting party leadership to call for unity.
