BNP playing game over Rohingya issue: Info Minister

Information Minister and Publication and Publicity secretary of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) Dr Hasan Mahmud said BNP is playing game with Rohingya issue and genuine repatriation is not their main objective.

“Their main objective is to muddle the water”, he said urging BNP not to do ill politics over this issue.

The Minister came up with the observation at a discussion in observance of the National Mourning Day at Dampara Police lines ground in Chattogram on Friday afternoon. Reports BSS.

He said the government is moving on the right direction with its all-out diplomatic endeavors on Rohingya repatriation issue and it has involved the international community for an amicable settlement.

The information minister commented that Rohingya problems will not be resolved through war and battle, it must have conclusive and by diplomatic efforts.

The programmed jointly organized by Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) and CMP School & College.

The minister said Bangabandhu was a visionary and far sighted statesman as soon after his release from Pakistani Jail he approached Indian premier Indira Gandhi asking her to take back Indian army from Bangladesh and Mrs Gandhi was convinced by Bangabandhu’s request, took her army back to India within three months.

“Those who do not want Bangladesh independence, they not only killed Bangabandhu and his family members on August 15, 1975 but also tried to erase his image from Bangladesh and World map” he said adding that the dreadful incident of August 15, 1975 was an integral part of international ploy.

Dr Hasan said the killers of Bangabandhu also tried to change the national flag shortly after his assassination but all their efforts went in vain after a strong resistance from pro-liberation forces.

Pointing out mammoth development activities of the present government, the minister said there is hardly any hut or a people clad in torn cloth in the country in reality. Bangladesh once used to import old clothes but now it exports new clothes to the foreign countries, everything has now become possible under the dynamic leadership of our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Appreciating the police activities, Information Minister said Bangladesh police plays a strong role for the safeguard and security of Bangladesh.

The supreme sacrifice of police forces in containing terrorism, militancy, arson attack, stopping hurling of petrol bombs are one of the major reason behind the development of Bangladesh.

CMP commissioner and President of the Managing committee of School and College Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman presided over the function while Additional Commissioner of CMP (Crime and Drive) Amena Begum, Deputy Police Commissioner (Sadar) Shyamol Kumar Nath delivered address of welcome.

Among others, DCP (North) Bijoy Boshak, Principal Shibli Sadique, senior Assistant Commissioner Ashiqur Rahman, spoke on the occasion.

The minister,later, handed over the prizes among the students who won different competitions.

Police charge batons on left alliance procession

Police have charged batons on left-democratic alliance’s ‘Black flag’ procession on way to the Prime Minister’s Office. Chase and counter chases were took place. Leaders and activists said that 20-25 people were hurt in the incident. The incident took place at Mathsha Bhaban area in the capital on Monday afternoon. In this regard Ramna zone DC of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Sajjadur Rahman said, we requested them not to break the barricade. Their leaders and activists did not follow the request. They attacked police with the sticks and bamboos attached to the placards. Five police members were injured and of them two were hurt critically. We have showed the sense of patience and later we disperse them. Officer in Charge of Ramna police station Monirul Islam said, we have taken several people into police custody. Dr. Zafrullah suggests Tarique to complete Masters or MPhil

Jatiya Oikyafront leader Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury has suggested BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to complete Masters for two years or MPhil after handover responsibility to the leaders available in the country to run BNP. His suggestion came in at a seminar titled ‘In which way Bangladesh’s democracy and voting rights?’ at Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium on Monday. Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury said, I am telling the BNP people that you are being directed by ‘Ohi’ (divine message). It is unfortunate for the nation. Your Ohis come from London city through Skype. Please leave that. You have smart leaders like Rony, Milon. There are more leaders like them, give them responsibility. About Tarique Rahman who is residing in London, he said, Tarique is one of my favorite persons. I have seen him from his childhood. For that reason I would say that you cannot release your mother (Begum Khaleda Zia) by staying so far. Please complete Masters or MPhil for two years while staying there. Handover your responsibility to the people available in the country. To Tarique Rahman he said, please stop delivering ‘Ohi’ and messages through Skype. Then they will make you victorious and your mother will be released. It is impossible to liberate democracy if Khaleda Zia is not released. But it is our responsibility to release her. We have to go to the field by not delivering speeches in the halls. AH

Now case filed against DUCSU VP Nur

A case has been filed against Vice President (VP) of Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) Nurul Haque Nur over the incident of clashes and attack on DUCSU Bhaban. In this case 29 people including VP Nur were made accused. DM Sabbir Hossain, a student of Zahurul Haq Hall filed the case with Shahbag police station on Wednesday night. Case number 38. Allegations of beating with a motive of killing along with theft were made in the case. DMP media and public relations department ADC Obaidur Rahman confirmed the information and said, a student of Zahurul Haq Hall of the university filed the case against VP Nur. 29 people were made accused in the case. Inspector of Shahbag police station Arifur Rahman was assigned to perform the investigation. The accused in the case are-DUCSU VP Nurul Haque Nur, convener of general students rights protection council Hasan Al Mamun, joint convener Mashiur Rahman, joint convener Faruk Hasan, Rashed Khan, APM Suhel (JnU), Abu Hanif, Aminul Islam, Tuhin Farabi (Dhanmondi Chartered University College), Mehedi Hasan, Salehuddin Sifat, Nazmul Hasan, Ayatullah Behesti, Rabiul Hossain, Arifur Rahman, Saimul Islam, Arifur Rahman, Bin Yamin Mollah, Tariqul Islam, Abdullah Hil Baki, Akram Hossain, Asif Khan, Sanaullah Haque, Ataullah, Shakil Mia, Hasanul Banna, Rabirul Islam, Raj, Ariful Islam and other 15 to 20 unnamed. According to the first information report, a program was going on beneath the Raju Sculpture organized by Muktijuddho Mancha Mamun-Bulbul fraction protesting the legal notice to the President served by Telenor authority. After holding the program they came to Madhur Canteen and there heated words were exchanged with DUCSU VP. In this incident 8 people of Muktijuddho Mancha including the plaintiff of the case were injured. At that time mobile phones, money bags and wrist watches were snatched away. On the other hand, in the afternoon of December 22, VP Nur filed a case mentioning names of 37 leaders and activists of Chhatra League and DUCSU over the incident of attack on VP Nur and his followers. DUCSU social service secretary Akhtar Hossain filed the case on behalf of him with Shahbag police station on Tuesday. AH

AL announces full-fledged committee

The full-fledged committee of Bangladesh Awami League was announced. The newly elected General Secretary of the party Obaidul Quader formally announced the 81-member committee at around 9:15 pm on Thursday at Awami League president’s political office at Dhanmondi in the capital. Earlier, on Saturday, on the second day of the council names of 40 members were announced. On Thursday the names of the rest members were announced. The new members in the committee: Finance and Planning Secretary: Begum Wasaka Aman Khan, Information and Research Secretary: Dr. Selim Mahmud, Labor and Manpower Secretary: Habibur Rahman Siraj, Organizing Secretary: Advocate Afzal Hossain and Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, Deputy Office Secretary: Sayem Khan, Deputy Publicity Secretary: Aminul Islam. Persons who get position in the central committee: Abul Hasnat Abdullah, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Advocate Kamrul Islam, Dr. Mostafa Jamal Nur, KM Jahangir, Nurul Islam Thandu, Mahiuddin Kamran, Dipankar Talukder, Akter Jahan, Dr. Musfique and others. The new committee members will perform their duties after paying homage to the grave of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara on January 3. AH

Those who collect AL nomination papers for city elections

Member of Parliament from Dhaka-10 constituency Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has bought Awami League nomination papers for the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections. Besides, another Member of Parliament Haji Mohammad Salim also has bought the nomination papers. Apart from them, Nazmul Haque and MA Rashid have collected nomination papers for the DSCC elections. On the other hand, for the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) elections the running mayor Atiqul Islam has bought the nomination papers. Besides, Yaz Al Fakir, Nazmul Haque, Shahidullah Osmani have collected the nomination papers. Their leaders and activists collected the nomination papers on Wednesday from the Awami League president’s political office at Dhanmondi in the capital on behalf of them. At around 3 pm Mayor Atiqul’s Personal Assistant Saifuddin Imon and younger brother Abu Mahmud Khan collected the nomination papers on behalf of him. At around 3:15 pm former organizing secretary of Dhaka metropolitan south unit of Awami League, Morshed Kamal collected the nomination papers on behalf of Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh. The Awami League nomination papers will be distributed till Friday. Meanwhile, the Election Commission declared the election schedule for the Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporations on Sunday (December 22). According to the schedule the voting of both the city elections will take place on January 30. AH
