Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, ''Awami League made the Election Commission independent, given them the financial capacity.'' She said, "So that no one can steal votes and fill the ballot boxes in advance, transparent ballot boxes are in place. Awami League government did this." The Prime Minister said these things at the 22nd National Conference of Awami League at the historical Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Saturday, December 24. Prime Minister said, Awami League's slogan was 'I will give my vote, I will give it to whoever I want.' "We formed the Election Commission and let them work independently. Voter ID cards have been given to everyone. The Election Commission Appointment Act-2022 was done by us." The Prime Minister said, if we had the intention of rigging votes, we could have formed the Election Commission like  'MA Aziz Commission'. But we did not dot it. In the 1996 elections, Khaleda Zia stole the votes and declared herself as the Prime Minister. But the people of Bangladesh do not accept it if someone steals their vote, the people of this country did not accept it."

Sheikh Hasina, the wonder girl, was born in 1947 at Tungipara under Gopalganj district. She is the fourth time Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Besides, she is the eldest offspring of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, country’s architect of independence and Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib. Today is the birthday of Sheikh Hasina, she has completed her 75. We are exchanging birthday greetings to this great leader of time. Sheikh Hasina, the just daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has many ups and down in her life. Highly educated in contemporary education system Sheikh Hasina got married to Wazed Mia, a nuclear scientist hailing from Rangpur district. Mother of two children Sheikh Hasina is the name of the sun covered by clouds, who faced the brutal tragedy of the history. As the cloud cannot cover the sun for long, in that course after settling from the brutal killings of the history she begins herself from the vacuum. Fortunately she managed to save her life for staying abroad along with her husband and younger sister. She stood up like the shining sun being strong. But her ways of turn-around was not smooth. She lost her father and took asylum to foreign country for six long years. She courageously dreamed of implementing her father’s dream. Facing hundreds of hurdles she returned in the motherland in 1981 and took the leadership of the party founded by her father. In 1996 after 15 years of struggle she became the Prime Minister of the country for the first time through the neutral election. Being a premier she decided to pay off the dues marked with blood, she began the process of trial of the killers of Bangabandhu. But she faced the hurdles by the change of government being unable to complete the judicial process. She had to stop for united efforts of anti liberation forces. But not getting worried she took control of party and politics. She moved forward with determination. But the conspirators of 1975 changed their face and netted their traps all over the country. Sheikh Hasina faced nearly 20 attacks intended to kill her. But she always believes in Allah. After facing many hurdles in 2008 she became the Prime Minister for second term. She begins her journey with the dream of Digital Bangladesh and does not stop. Bangladesh now role model of development in the world under her guidance on the highway of development. Now Sheikh Hasina means the pace of development along with 10 mega projects including the projects of Padma Bridge, Karnaphuli Tunnel, Metro Rail, Elevated Expressway. The Sonar Bangla dreamed by Bangabandhu is now on solid economic foundation. The whole world is witnessing the wonder as the country overcomes the coronavirus pandemic. With her own qualifications she has gained the position in the list of world’s most influential persons. She took the Ashrayan project after assuming in office in 2014 and pledged that there will not be a single person without shelter. Sheikh Hasina is working tirelessly to change the fate of mass people. Under her leadership she does not centralize the theme of development rather decentralizes it. She is at the peak of fulfilling her dreams for the infrastructural development of the country by taking one house- one farm, shelter for homeless projects. With the continuation of remaining in power she is currently performing her responsibilities for the fourth term. Under her leadership Bangladesh has entered in the new age of education, health, rural and economic advancement.                  

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today (Thursday) said as per the existing laws, BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and its acting vice-chairman Tarique Rahman are not qualified for contesting in the next parliamentary elections.  "BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was convicted for corruption while Mirza Fakhrul claims that BNP is well-organised under her leadership. Tarique Rahman is the blessed son of graft and a fugitive convicted," he told a press briefing at his official residence in the capital. Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said Tarique fled away the country on undertaking that he would never do politics.  "So...how would a convicted fugitive become the BNP leader?" he questioned.  Responding to a statement of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the AL general secretary said in fact the BNP, not the Awami League, is recognised as a terrorist party at home and abroad.  A Canadian court also recognised the BNP as a terrorist party, he added.  Mentioning that the AL is an organisation of commoners and a resort to the people's trust, Quader said the stance of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government and the AL is very strong against terrorism and communal forces. He said as the BNP is involved in terrorism, it is isolated from people, resulting failure in movement and elections. Replying to the allegations of BNP leaders that the government does not want a competitive election, the AL general secretary said, "The BNP is actually afraid of polls."   Noting that the BNP leaders fear the Sheikh Hasina's popularity, he said the BNP is in dilemma to vie elections because of the fear of defeat. Quader said the Awami League never wants to score goals on an empty field as it wants competitive elections.  The government believes in participatory elections involving all political parties, he said, adding that joining elections is the political right of all parties but BNP is afraid of defeat. So, he said, the BNP leaders do not want to participate in the elections. About the BNP leaders' allegations over the Election Commission (EC), the AL general secretary said the BNP wants to make the Commission questionable and  continues its ill-efforts to do so.  Pointing to the BNP leaders, he questioned: "Did they (BNP) take opinion of anyone in constituting the Commission. Did they hold any dialogue with any political party?"  Quader mentioned that the Sadek Ali and Aziz-mark ECs were formed as per the instructions of the then prime minister Khaleda Zia. BNP’s recent pledges before the public over power sector rang hollow as it comes without any acknowledgment and even extension of any apology over rampant corruption spree overseen by fugitive convict Tarique Rahman, acting chairman of BNP, during its regime. Prime Minister's ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy today pointed out such dismal tale of corruption taken on an unprecedented scale by BNP-Jamaat during its last tenure between 2001 and 2006 on power and called it a shameless party for vowing to reform the power sector that it has destroyed driven by its leaders’ lust for money.   The latest remark from the ICT exponent came through a Facebook post on his verified account along with a audiovisual titled 'Reformation proposal by Mirza Fakhrul's quarter: will BNP revive the power sector that it has destroyed?' The only feat BNP achieved during its tenure is activating the operation of Tongi Power Station through overhauling on September 3, 2005. Its plaque was inaugurated by then Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. But, the power station tripped even before she could reach Abdullahpur in Uttara after inaugurating it, Joy recalled. "Mirza Fakhrul vowed before media that if they came to power, they will change the power sector beyond imagination.  During their tenure between 2001 to 2006, BNP couldn’t add even single megawatt electricity to the grid. In the name of electricity generation, Tarique's cohorts with a Hawa Bhaban syndicate looted billions of bucks by simply erecting electric posts," said the commentary in the video. Source: BSS AH
