Kohli announced his retirement after winning the World Cup
Virat Kohli said he had played his last T20 international after starring in India's thrilling seven-run win over South Africa in the T20 World Cup final in Barbados on Saturday (June 29).
After receiving the Player of the Match award, Kohli said, 'Now or never, (that was my) last T20 World Cup for India. This is exactly what I wanted to achieve. God is great.'
Explaining the responsibility to the next generation, Kohli said, 'I tried to contribute as much as possible to the team. Wanted to lift the title, tried to respect the situation and play. Now the next generation has to take over. We have some great players who can take the team forward.'
The star batsman put a run of low scores behind him to make 76 as he was named Man of the Match.
India had just won their first World Cup since the ODI edition in 2011, which incidentally was Kohli's first World Cup. He said it would take a while for the feeling to sink in.
At the end of his glorious career, Virat Kohli finished with a tally of 4188 in 125 matches at an average of 48.69.
