Taskin finally reveals about all the rumours of his oversleeping
Bangladesh team returned home last Friday after a disappointing T20 World Cup. After the failure of the World Cup, there was a discussion about pacer Taskin Ahmed's sleep before the India match. The right-arm pacer finally opened his mouth about the matter.
Taskin wrote in a status from his verified Facebook page on Wednesday (July 3), 'Assalamu Alaikum, hope everyone is well. I have recently come to know through various online media that there is a lot of fuss about an incident in the recently concluded T20 World Cup.'
'First of all, I want everyone to know that most of the news and information that is being spread is just rumors and I hope fans see it that way.
Secondly, I want to clarify what actually happened that day.
I admit that I got up later than usual and for that I have already apologised to the whole team and management,' he added.
'I got up at 8:37 am and went to the lobby at 8:43 am and I left the hotel at 9:00 am as soon as my ride was ready. I entered the stadium at 9:40 am, 20 minutes before the match toss at 10:00 am. We sang the national anthem at 10.15am and the match started at 10.30am.
It is very unfortunate that these so-called sports journalists are circulating/printing news based on rumours and trying to tarnish my image without verifying which is as a player of the national cricket team,' Taskin stated.
'Those who know me know how much I love our country and how dedicated, passionate and proud I am to represent Bangladesh. I know I made an unintentional mistake of not getting on the team bus on time, but I was in the stadium before the toss. It was the team management's decision not to select me in the final squad. Which had to do with getting the right team combination and it wasn't related to my failure not to get on the team bus,' he added.
The pacer hoped that the media and sports journalists will be more careful before writing false stories and not create a toxic environment. This not only harms our players but also undermines the overall image of our country. I believe we all expect honest and professional journalism so that we can move forward as a nation.
