FIFA Unveils NASA-Inspired Golden Club World Cup 2025 Trophy

The Federation International de Football Association (FIFA) on Friday unveiled the new trophy for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup 2025, which is scheduled to be played in the US from July 15 to July 13, 2025.
The football's past and future are symbolized by the cup's design, which was inspired by NASA's Voyager Golden Records. The 24-carat gold cup also features many graphics that illustrate the periodic table, astronomy, and the football's magnificence.
The cup was created in collaboration with Tiffany & Co. and will be given to the champion after the final game at MetLife Stadium.
The trophy also symbolizes the world of club football, which is a celebration of greatness, hope, and pride. It captures the journey of every club, player, and supporter who is bound together by their love of the beautiful game.
This edition of the Club World Cup is set to be played in an expanded format with 32 teams from six continents in eight groups of four teams, of which two from each group will qualify for the knockout rounds.
This FIFA Club World Cup will also include winners of four previous continental championships.
English Premier League Club Manchester City is the defending champion of the 2023 Club World Cup, which was hosted by Saudi Arabia.
Unveiling the new trophy, the FIFA President said, "The trophy had to be innovative, inclusive, groundbreaking, and truly global, as this competition is. The FIFA Club World Cup trophy—a remarkable equivalent to our iconic FIFA World Cup—is a revolutionary symbol of a bright, new future for club football, inspired by the past."
The draw for the tournament, which has sparked controversy among various sectors of football due to the increased number of matches in an already packed schedule, will take place on December 5 in Miami, USA.

Former Bangladesh captain and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s return to Bangladesh is now in doubt after student protesters burned his effigy on Wednesday.
The South African cricket team has arrived in Dhaka, and Bangladesh's newly appointed head coach, Phil Simmons, has also joined the team. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the squad for the Mirpur Test, including Shakib Al Hasan, who had recently received clearance to return. However, a fresh complication arose late Wednesday night, forcing Shakib to pause in the UAE. His flight to Dhaka now depends on receiving further approval.
Shakib aims to conclude his illustrious international Test career on home soil with the Mirpur Test against South Africa, as he plans to focus exclusively on ODIs going forward. With no home matches scheduled for Bangladesh before the 2025 Champions Trophy, this Test represents his final opportunity to bid farewell to local fans.
Earlier, during Bangladesh’s recent tour to India, Shakib expressed his desire to play the final Test only if security measures were ensured amid Bangladesh's evolving political landscape. Though uncertainties persisted, he received a green light from the interim government and had made all travel arrangements to return on Thursday, October 17.
However, upon arriving in Dubai en route from the USA, Shakib was asked to wait instead of continuing to Dhaka. Reports suggest the ongoing protests near the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, along with other complications, led to this delay.
The government is reportedly reevaluating his security arrangements given the recent unrest near the stadium. Shakib’s situation became even more delicate after he was implicated in a murder case in Dhaka’s Adabor area during the national team’s tour to Pakistan, which subjected him to harsh criticism on social media.
Although the BCB and government initially assured Shakib of sufficient security, the recent developments raise doubts about whether he will be able to participate in the Mirpur Test. For now, his return to the field remains in limbo, with fans eagerly awaiting the outcome of this unfolding situation.
Ronaldo’s Goal Secures Dramatic Win for Al Nassr
Al Nassr led until the 90th minute, but a late mistake allowed the opposition to score, putting their victory in doubt. Just when it seemed they would drop points, Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up and scored from the penalty spot to restore the lead.

But Ronaldo’s composure in extra time ensured his team’s victory. His penalty goal marked the 907th goal of his career, as he continues to chase the historic 1,000-goal milestone. This was Ronaldo’s 55th goal for Al Nassr, along with 15 assists for the club.
Bangladesh to Host Maldives for Two Friendlies in November
The Bangladesh national football team will play two international friendly matches against Maldives on November 13 and 16 at home during the final FIFA window of the year.
The news was confirmed on Saturday afternoon by Imran Hossain Tushar, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF).
Initially, BFF had approached Malaysia and Thailand to arrange matches during the November window, but both teams were only interested in playing a single match. Eventually, BFF contacted Maldives, who agreed to play two matches, which BFF accepted considering the lower cost and additional match.
The matches are expected to be held at the Bashundhara Kings Arena, with BFF maintaining close coordination with the venue management.
Meanwhile, Bangladeshi-origin English footballer Hamza Dewan Choudhury recently received clearance from the English Football Association and obtained a Bangladesh passport. However, BFF’s request to FIFA’s Player Status Committee for his eligibility to represent Bangladesh is still pending, as FIFA requested more documentation, delaying his inclusion.
To make matters worse, Hamza is currently sidelined with an injury, making his participation in the Maldives matches uncertain.

Bangladesh Opt to Bat After Winning Toss Against South Africa
The South African cricket team arrived in Dhaka on October 16 for a two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Both teams have taken the field for the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
On Monday, October 21, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and chose to bat first. The Tigers' playing XI features three spinners and one pacer. Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz retain their places, while Nayeem Hasan returns to the Test side after nearly a year, having last played in December 2023. Hasan Mahmud is the lone pacer.

Neymar Set to Return for Al Hilal after Long Injury Layoff
Brazilian forward Neymar Jr is set to make his return from a yearlong injury layoff after training and traveling with his club Al Hilal before their Asian Champions League game in the United Arab Emirates, the Saudi Pro League club has confirmed. Al Jazeera news.
"Al Hilal is happy to announce that Neymar will join the squad for the away trip to Al Ain. He's back," the club said on Saturday.
"Neymar participated in team training after completing his recovery program," Al Hilal posted on their social media.
Earlier, Neymar's marketing company NR Sports also confirmed his potential return in Monday's Asian Football Confederation's (AFC) Champions League Elite match.
"The number 10 will be able to play on Monday to carry on with his remarkable trajectory," the statement said, in a reference to the match.
Photos posted by Al Hilal showed Neymar taking part in a team training session and joining the Al Hilal squad for their trip to the UAE for their match against the UAE Pro League club.
The 32-year-old Brazil forward has not played since sustaining the injury during his nation's CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in October last year.
He suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and underwent surgery in November.
The former Barcelona forward, who is Brazil's leading scorer, missed their 2024 Copa America campaign in the United States, where they suffered a second straight quarterfinal exit from a major tournament after losing to Croatia on penalties at the 2022 World Cup.
They play Al Ain at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium on Monday.
Neymar's agency said the Brazilian's love for football and his hope to play in the FIFA World Cup 2026 was bringing him back to action.
"These were days of pain, anguish, and a lot of longing for football, which were overcome with the help of family and friends, always present for our number 10. And all the fans around the world who gave him all support in social media networks," the statement added.
"The wait is over."
"Every time I get injured, I come back. But I don't come back halfway," a tearful Neymar said in a social media video of him speaking about his recovery with footage of his efforts to come back.
Neymar returned to training in July, but in September his club coach Jorge Jesus dampened expectations of an immediate comeback.
The Portuguese coach did not confirm Neymar will play on Monday.
Neymar, whose two-year contract ends next August, is eligible to appear in AFC Champions League Elite matches as the continental competition has no restrictions on the number of foreign players allowed. That is not the case in the Saudi Pro League, which will see him back only in January.
If fit, Neymar could return to Brazil's national team in two rounds of South American World Cup qualifying scheduled for November.
