Tigresses Start T20 Series With Big Defeat
The Bangladesh Women's cricket team faced a tough start to their three-match T20 International series, losing by eight wickets to the West Indies in the opening game at Basseterre, St Kitts.
After opting to bat first, Bangladesh posted 144-3 on the board, led by skipper Nigar Sultana Joty’s unbeaten 53 off 40 balls, which included five boundaries and two sixes. Sharmin Akter Supta contributed 37, while opener Sobhana Mostary added 22 runs.
However, the total proved inadequate against the dominant West Indies batting lineup. The hosts chased down the target effortlessly, reaching 145-2 with 22 balls to spare.
West Indies captain Hayley Matthews anchored the innings with an unbeaten 60 off 54 deliveries, hitting seven fours. Deandra Dottin delivered a blistering performance, smashing 51 not out off just 22 balls, which featured an explosive seven sixes.
This defeat comes after Bangladesh lost the preceding three-match ODI series 2-1, narrowly missing direct qualification for the ICC Cricket World Cup.
