SAFF U-15 Champs: Stage set for Bangladesh-Pakistan final

Bangladesh will play Pakistan in the final of the six-nation SAFF U-15 Championship on Saturday (November 3) at ANFA Complex in Lalitpur, Nepal.

The title-deciding match will kick off at 2:45 pm Bangladesh time.

Bangladesh smartly reached the final of the six-nation South Asian U-15 soccer meet with all-win record eliminating their neighbor India by 4-2 goals in tie-breaker at ANFA Complex in Lalitpur on Thursday morning. Reports UNB.

The first semifinal between the two teams was locked in 1-1 goal in the stipulated period to roll into the tie-breaker.

In the day’s crucial first semifinal, Patre Harsh Shailesh put India ahead in the 17th minute by a long distance shot from about 35 yards, amid huge celebrations of Indian players and their fans (1-0).

When the match was almost heading for Indian victory, Ashiqur Rahman scored the match equalizer in the 3rd minute of the stoppage time from a penalty (1-1) leading the match towards the tie-breaker.

In the penalty shootout, Bangladeshi substitute custodian Mehedi Hasan made situation easy for Bangladesh foiling the first two Indian attempts.

Bangladesh players Towhidul Islam Hridoy, Raza Ansar, Raju and Rustam converted all the four spot kicks correctly while Indian booters spoiled two out of four.

In the day’s 2nd semifinal, Pakistan made an easy passage to final eliminating hosts Nepal by 4-0 goals at the same venue in the afternoon.

After a barren first half, Mohibullah struck twice in the 59th and 68th minutes, both from penalty, while Midassar Nazar netted the other goal for Pakistan in the 77th minute after they took lead in the 54th minute by a suicidal goal.

After winning the semifinal, Head Coach of Bangladesh Mostafa Anwar Parvez Babu said, “We had a great victory against India in the semifinal but this is not the proper time to celebrate as we have devoted ourselves to making a plan for the final against Pakistan.”

After the match, Bangladesh Embassy in Nepal arranged a lunch in honor the victorious Bangladesh team.

Bangladesh qualified for the final of the SAFF U-15 Championship for the first time after losing to hosts Nepal in the semifinal in 2017. However, Bangladesh emerged champions in the SAFF U-16 Championship beating India, also in tie-breaker held in Sylhet in 2015.

With the day’s goal, Nihad Jaman Uchchash of Bangladesh was leading scorer list making four goals.

Earlier, Bangladesh emerged Group A champions with all-win record to reach the semifinals beating hosts Nepal by 2-1 goals in the last group match after crushing the Maldives by 9-0 goals in the first match, featuring a hat-trick by Nihad Jaman while Nepal outplayed the Maldives 4-0 in their first appearance on Thursday last.

After the group stages, Bangladesh (Group A) and Pakistan (Group B) clinched the group crown with all-win run to qualify for the semifinals securing full six points from straight two encounters while Nepal (Group A) and India (Group B) finished group runners-up to reach the semifinals, collecting three points from two matches.

Bangladesh lose the T-20 series against West Indies

At the beginning of the match Bangladesh bowlers have to face the storm of Evin Lewis. It seemed that it was a matter of time for West Indies to score more than two hundred runs. On the next ball Shakib also returned to the pavilion playing the same kind of shot. Mushfiqur also failed like the previous two matches. He was caught out bowled by Kemo Paul. Soon after Mahmudullah was on his way to the dressing room scoring 11 runs. Then all eyes were on Liton Das. But he disappointed the audiences. He was out for 52 off 25 balls. Ariful then out on the next ball. Saifuddin could not stay on the crease. Later Mehidy Miraz (19) and Abu Haider Rony (22*) tried their best. At last tigers have to accept the defeat of 50 runs after being all out scoring 140 runs with three overs to remain. Kemo Paul took 5 wickets. Bangladesh level series with win against West Indies

The tigers scored the highest runs in the home ground. Earlier in T-20s they scored 215 runs against Sri Lanka in Colombo. If they score more 5 runs toady then they would pass the total runs record. But it is not a simple matter scoring 211 runs against the T-20 world champions. In the first match of the series tigers batting-bowling line up were just broken to the Caribbean. Following that defeat there was fear of series defeat. There was fear- can Bangladesh turn around after the defeat? All that happened. By not keeping those in mind Soumya Sarkar in the earlier day at the press conference said, we are ready to take the challenge. And according to that Bangladesh have turned around against West Indies taking the challenge. They have returned to the series beating the Caribbeans. Now the waiting is for three series win after beating them in the last T-20 match. In the afternoon at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium after winning the toss Caribbean captain sent Bangladesh to bat first. In batting the opening was fabulous between Tamim and Liton Das. But Tamim was out giving a catch from Fabian Allen’s ball after scoring 16 runs. Then the partnership between Soumya and Liton turned violent. The pair scored 68 runs. Soumya scored 32 runs off 22 balls. Liton began to score fast and made his T-20 career second half century with 26 balls. Liton was out scoring 60 runs off 34 balls. Then Mushfique came but went to the pavilion just scoring 1 run. Then Shakib and Mahmudullah took the game to the last stipulated ball. Shakib scored 42 runs off 26 balls and Mahmudullah scored 43 runs off 21 balls. Bangladesh set the giant target of 212 runs losing 4 wickets in the 20 overs. Caribbean Sheldon Cottrell took two wickets, Oshane Thomas and Fabian Allen took one wicket each. But the T-20 world champions were in disarray to chase the huge target. Pacer Abu Haider began the process after making opener Avin Lewes out. Then the Caribbean top order was knocked down by Shakib. From one end Shakib and from the other end Miraz and Mustafiz shared the Windies wickets. Rovman Powell made his career’s first half century in the Caribbean procession of come and go. Shai Hope scored the second highest 36 runs. Kemo Paul made 29 runs. The Caribbeans could not play the full 20 overs. They lost all the wickets after scoring 175 runs from 19.2 overs. Bangladesh in batting crisis

The hosts have scored 110 runs losing six wickets in the first Twenty20 International at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Monday. Bangladesh to face off WI today for series winning

Hosts Bangladesh and visiting West Indies will face off each other in the 3rd and final match of the three-match ODI series on Friday. The match will begin at 12pm at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium to decide the series. GTV will telecast the match live. In the first One-Day International match in Dhaka on Tuesday, Bangladesh beat the visitors by 5 wickets and led the series 1-0. But the Tigers lost the 2nd match in Dhaka by four wickets and eventually, the visiting team managed to win the match to level the series 1-1. So, the final match of the series is a do-or-die match both for Bangladesh and West Indies. Bangladesh are optimistic to win two successive ODI series over West Indies. Tigers want to use the spirit of winning the series in West Indies beating them in the last match. If Bangladesh win the 3rd and final ODI, it will be the third consecutive ODI series victory. Twenty20 squad against West Indies declared

Bangladesh Cricket Board has declared a 14-man Twenty20 squad for three-match series against West Indies beginning next week. All-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin and batsman Mohammad Mithun were included in the squad excluding Mosaddek Hossain and Sabbir Rahman who played in Bangladesh’s last Twenty20 series against West Indies in July-August. Paceman Abu Jayed was also dropped from their previous squad. The newly included Saifuddin and Mithun played their last two Twenty20 international against Sri Lanka in February. The first match of the upcoming series is set to be held at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on December 17 while the next two matches will take place on December 20 and 22 respectively.
