Shakib Al Hasan has finally passed his bowling action test, clearing the allegations of an illegal action that surfaced last year while playing English-county cricket. After unsuccessful attempts in Birmingham and India, he succeeded on his third try.
England’s Loughborough University conducted the latest test and confirmed that Shakib’s bowling action is now legal. With this clearance, he is eligible to bowl at all levels of cricket.
Previously, his failure to pass the test cost him a spot in Bangladesh’s Champions Trophy squad. Determined to rectify his action, Shakib travelled to England on February 27 and trained intensively with Surrey at Kia Oval, receiving expert coaching and full training facilities.
Surrey played a crucial role in assisting Shakib, providing practice wickets, specialized coaching, and gym access, with hopes of recruiting him into their squad.
Shakib underwent his final assessment at Loughborough University's lab on March 9. The results, which he received on Wednesday, confirmed that his action meets legal standards.
During the test, Shakib bowled 22 deliveries, most of which were deemed faultless. While a couple of deliveries showed minor issues, the specialists did not consider them significant. With this successful test, Shakib has officially been cleared of illegal bowling action concerns.
