The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been at the centre of significant discussions in recent days, especially following the controversy surrounding the ban on cricketer Towhid Hridoy and criticism directed at BCB President Faruque Ahmed. In light of these issues, the BCB has called for an emergency board meeting.
The meeting is scheduled for Sunday, April 27, at 4:00 pm, to be held online via Zoom. All members of the board are expected to attend, according to a confirmation from one of the BCB directors.
Earlier, regarding Towhid Hridoy's ban, BCB President Faruque Ahmed met with cricketers and umpires last Friday. It was announced that Hridoy's suspension would begin next year, a decision that has sparked widespread criticism.
Meanwhile, there has been considerable debate within the cricket community concerning the transfer of BCB's Fixed Deposit (FDR) funds across various banks. The controversy escalated following allegations that BCB President Faruque Ahmed moved 120 crore Taka without consulting other board members. While BCB has denied these claims, the matter remains contentious.
Despite the board's clarification, the issue continues to generate significant discussion. It is expected that today's board meeting will address these concerns. In addition, the meeting will also cover various matters related to the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) and the captaincy of Bangladesh’s national cricket team across all three formats.
