Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and elected to bat first against Ireland in their second and final Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today.
Significantly, this match is Mushfiqur Rahim's 100th Test, a milestone that establishes him as the first Bangladeshi cricketer to achieve the feat.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam Bulbul heaped lavish praise on Mushfiqur Rahim for his pure dedication to cricket, terming him the true Mr. Dependable of the country's cricket.
"Mushfiqur has had three roles-first, he was Bangladesh's most dependable batsman. His name became "Mr. Dependable". Second, he kept wicket. And third, he played all formats. If you combine these three, you see why reaching 100 Tests, especially in a country that barely gets enough Test matches, is a massive achievement," he told a local media.
"His dedication to cricket, his fitness, and his consistency made this possible. To me, he fully deserves it."
Meanwhile, the home side led the two-match series 1-0 following their innings-and-47-run victory in the first Test in Sylhet.
