Liton Das etched his name into the record books on Saturday, becoming the first Bangladeshi cricketer to surpass the 2,000-run mark in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC).

The milestone was achieved during the opening day of the first Test against at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Although Liton was unable to convert his start into a massive score, his composed 33-run knock in the first innings was enough to secure his place at the top of the national run-scoring charts for this global tournament format.

Liton currently leads a group of seasoned teammates in the WTC rankings.

Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim sits in second place with 1,876 runs, having contributed a solid 71 runs in the ongoing Mirpur Test.

While Liton holds the record for total runs with an average of 37.20, Mushfiqur maintains a superior batting average of 43.62 within the championship.

Following the leading duo are several key pillars of the Bangladesh batting lineup.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto occupies the third spot with 1,650 runs, while Mominul Haque (1,594 runs) and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz (1,324 runs) round out the top five.

Captain Shanto celebrated the occasion with a standout performance of his own, smashing a brilliant 101.

This marked his fifth century in the World Test Championship, the highest number of hundreds by any Bangladeshi batter in the competition's history.

By comparison, both Liton and Mushfiqur currently have four WTC centuries each to their credit.
