Bangladesh secured a berth in the men's cricket semifinals at the Asian Games 2026 on Tuesday after persistent downpours forced the abandonment of their quarterfinal clash against Malaysia without a single ball being bowled.

The match was officially called off prior to the toss as heavy rain continued to disrupt the fixture schedule at the Korogi Sports Park in Nagoya, Japan.

Under the tournament regulations governing rain-affected encounters, Bangladesh advanced to the final four by virtue of their superior T20I ranking, while Malaysia was eliminated from the competition.

Inclement weather impacted all four men's cricket quarterfinal fixtures, which were abandoned due to continuous rainfall, preventing any play in both the Bangladesh-Malaysia and Sri Lanka-Nepal matches on Tuesday.

The Bangladeshi side, captained by Liton Das, is scheduled to square off against Pakistan in the semi-final on October 1, while India will take on Sri Lanka in the other semifinal matchup on the same day.

Weather conditions could once again prove decisive in the knockout stages. Should the semifinal between Bangladesh and Pakistan be washed out without a result, Pakistan would progress to the final on account of their higher international standing.

The recurring rain-induced abandonments have heightened concerns regarding potential further disruptions to the remaining Asian Games cricket schedule.
