When Mustafizur Rahman came on to bowl the tenth over, Pakistan’s score stood at 76 for 4 after nine overs. Needing 36 runs off the final four overs for victory, Bangladesh was still very much alive in the contest.
However, Pakistan plundered 23 runs from that single over bowled by Mustafiz, reducing the equation to a modest 13 runs off 18 balls. From there, the match was effectively out of reach.
Ultimately, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by six wickets in the semi-finals of the Asian Games cricket tournament, knocking Litton Das’s side out of the race for the gold medal.
It is not as though Pakistan was set a paltry target. On an uneven pitch in a 13-over-per-side contest, a target of 112 runs was more than competitive enough for the bowlers to defend.
Yet, Mustafizur’s bowling spell effectively removed Bangladesh from the match. The left-arm pace bowler leaked 41 runs across his two overs, sparing Pakistan from any real pressure on the run rate.
