Beyond his fighting spirit on the football pitch in Bangladesh colors, Hamza Choudhury is making his mark off the field through humanitarian endeavors.
The star midfielder for the Bangladesh national football team has stepped forward to raise funds for the medical treatment of injured children in war-torn Gaza.
More than £100,000—equivalent to approximately 16.5 million Bangladeshi Taka—has been raised through his initiative.
Hamza is receiving widespread praise for taking the lead to support helpless children in Gaza.
Hamza raised the amount through a charity event organized in collaboration with Nujum Sports.
In an emotional message shared on social media, he revealed that the entire fund will be dedicated to medical treatment for children in Gaza.
The primary aim of this initiative is to evacuate children injured in the violence to safe locations and arrange advanced medical care for them.
Assistance will be channeled through a humanitarian organization called "Children Not Numbers."
Expressing his gratitude to everyone who supported the initiative and made donations, the Sheffield United footballer highlighted the immense suffering of the people of Gaza, noting that this assistance is perhaps very small compared to their unending hardship.
However, Hamza expressed hope that even small initiatives can spark significant change.
He also called on everyone to pray for the liberation and peace of the oppressed Palestinian people.
While Hamza garners attention for his off-pitch humanitarian work, preparations for on-field competition are underway for the Bangladesh team.
The SAFF Championship is set to kick off in Dhaka on November 5.
Ahead of the tournament, Bangladesh footballers are training at the National Stadium with a 30-member preliminary squad under coach Thomas Dooley.
Bangladesh will face Bhutan on the opening day of the competition. However, due to club commitments, the national side will not have the services of Hamza or England-based Farhan Ali Wahed for the opening match.
Both footballers are scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on November 9 to join the national team once the FIFA international window begins.
