Neymar, who terminated his contract with Al-Hilal and returned to Santos in January, has been showing flashes of brilliance at his childhood club but is still grappling with injuries.
The 33-year-old has been out of the national squad since sustaining an injury against Uruguay in October 2023. Since Carlo Ancelotti took over as Brazil's coach, he has not yet considered Neymar for the national team.
With less than a year remaining until the next World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, Neymar has yet to secure his return to the national side. As time passes, his prospects of making a comeback seem to be diminishing.
However, Brazilian fans are not giving up hope of seeing their beloved star at the World Cup. Seleção coach Ancelotti stated that everyone is waiting for the nation's all-time leading goal-scorer to return to his peak physical condition.
When asked in an interview with the Brazilian sports monthly Placar if he was annoyed by the repeated questions about Neymar's return, the Italian coach replied, "No, it's not a problem. It's normal (for people to ask) because Neymar is a legend of Brazilian football."
Ancelotti added, "Everyone wants Neymar to return to his best physical shape. The Brazilian Federation (CBF), the coach, the national team's technical staff, and the players are all hopeful that Neymar will get back to his best."
However, the former Real Madrid coach issued a strong caution, emphasizing that Neymar must be physically fit to be selected for the national team.
In his words, "The truth is that football today demands a lot. It's not just about talent; physical condition, concentration... I hope Neymar reaches his best level."
Even after his return to Santos, injuries have continued to plague Neymar. The star, who holds the record for most goals in a Brazil jersey, recently returned to the field after being sidelined for 48 days with a muscle injury.
This past Sunday (November 9), Neymar was subdued in the starting XI against Flamengo and was substituted by the coach in the 85th minute. He faced significant criticism for his angry reaction to the substitution, which showed his displeasure with the coach's decision.
