The Bangladesh Youth Nuclear Congress (BYNC) has brought unprecedented recognition to Bangladesh by winning the prestigious ‘Juan Alberto González Garrido Award for the Best Young Generation Network in the World’ at the International Youth Nuclear Congress (IYNC) 2026, held in Avignon, France, in October 2026.
This remarkable achievement marks a historic milestone for Bangladesh's nuclear science and technology community, placing the country among the leading youth networks in the global nuclear sector.
As Bangladesh's national youth network for nuclear science and technology and the 49th national member organisation of IYNC, BYNC represents a pioneering initiative to connect students, researchers, and young professionals with the international nuclear community.
Its participation also marked the first time a Bangladeshi team competed on the global Innovation 4 Nuclear (I4N) platform, establishing the country's first representation in this global competition.
At IYNC 2026, BYNC Founder and President Mahmudul Hasan Sami participated as the National Representative and presented Bangladesh's country report. The delegation also organised a specialised workshop on fusion materials, led by President Mahmudul Hasan Sami, Vice President Sadia Nowshin Promi, and General Secretary Nazifa Tasnim, with Adviser Fahim Anan as the speaker.
Additionally, Team RadSafe, comprising Mubin Hossain Omio and Munem Shahriar Islam Shamonto, represented Bangladesh as top finalists in the global I4N competition. The delegation's receipt of the Juan Alberto González Garrido Award further established BYNC's position as an internationally recognised youth network.
The foundation of this global success was built through BYNC's initiatives at home. On August 8, 2026, BYNC, in collaboration with American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), organised I4N x InnoVenture Bangladesh 2026, bringing together approximately 500 students, researchers, and innovators. The event featured 85 participating teams across different competition tracks and project exhibitions, providing a platform for young people to showcase their research and innovative ideas.
Professor Dr. Md. Ali Zulkarnain, former Chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, attended as Chief Guest, while IYNC President Benoît Erbacher joined virtually from France. The winning team, Team RedSafe, subsequently earned the opportunity to represent South Asia in a global competition supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
BYNC has also developed strong connections with prominent national institutions, including the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited (NPCBL), Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA), BUET, BRAC University, and MIST. American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), serving as its Institutional Partner, has played a significant role in supporting the organisation's academic and institutional initiatives.
Russian House in Dhaka, SuperSine Cables, Meghna Bank, Akij Blue Pill, and IDP have also contributed to its programmes through various forms of support.
Behind this achievement is a dedicated leadership team comprising Founder and President Mahmudul Hasan Sami, Vice President Sadia Nowshin Promi, and General Secretary Nazifa Tasnim.
The organisation receives guidance from its advisers Professor Lt. Col. Md. Altab Hossain, alongside advisers Zareen Tahsin Anjum and Fahim Anan. Webmaster Tamim Muhammad Raeed, several executive officers, and a dedicated team of volunteers have also played important roles in BYNC's growth and success.
BYNC's achievement is more than an international award; it represents the growing capabilities and aspirations of Bangladesh's younger generation.
Through its pioneering initiatives, international representation, and commitment to scientific engagement, BYNC has opened a new horizon for young Bangladeshis in nuclear science and technology, demonstrating that the country can make meaningful contributions to the global scientific community.
