Great danger signal no.10 in 9 districts including Payra, Mongla port

Department of Meteorology asked to show Great danger signal no.10 at Payra and Mongla ports as cyclonic storm Remal may strike Bangladesh this afternoon (26 May). The maritime port of Chattogram and Cox's Bazar have been advised to hoist great danger signal 9, according to a special bulletin of the Meteorological office.

Due to the impact of Cyclone Remal, coastal districts such as Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalokathi, Barguna, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, and nearby islands and low-lying areas may experience three to five feet higher tidal surge than the normal, leading to flooding, according to the special bulletin signed by Meteorologist Md Hafizur Rahman.

According to the latest special notification of the Meteorological Department,
Cyclone Remal was located 400 km south-west of Chittagong sea port, 300 km south-west of Cox's Bazar sea port, 330 km south of Mongla sea port and 295 km south of Payra sea port at 6 am today. It may continue to move further north and intensify.

This information has been informed in the special notification number 10 about Cyclone Remal on Sunday morning. It has been said there, the Chittagong and Cox's Bazar seaports should display the new distress signal number 9.

According to the notification, the coastal districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalkathi, Barguna, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali and their nearby islands and chars will be covered under the 10th danger signal.

Cyclone Rimal was located 400 km south-west of Chittagong sea port, 300 km south-west of Cox's Bazar sea port, 330 km south of Mongla sea port and 295 km south of Payra sea port at 6 am today, according to the latest special notification of the Meteorological Department. It may intensify further north.

The sustained maximum wind speed within 54 kilometres of the cyclone centre is 64 kilometres per hour, increasing to gusts of up to 130 kilometres per hour.

The sea near the cyclone centre is extremely rough. It grows up to 130 km in the form of gusts.

According to the notification, heavy to very heavy rains are likely to occur in all parts of the country under the influence of Cyclone Remal
