US Support to Bangladeshi Media for Investigative Reporting
The United States supported investigative reporting by Bangladeshi media and journalists. At the same time, Matthew Miller, the spokesperson of the US State Department, praised the media of Bangladesh for publishing such reports.
Recently, Bangladesh Police Service Association BPSA made a statement about being cautious in publishing news after the report about the corruption of some officials including former IGP Benazir Ahmed. Spokesman Matthew Miller was asked about the BPSA's statement at the US State Department's regular press briefing on Monday (June 24). At this time, he spoke in support of the independent role of Bangladeshi media and media workers.
'We strongly support the role of a free and independent media in maintaining effective democratic institutions and promoting transparency in government,' said Matthew Miller. We object to any attempt to harass or intimidate journalists to prevent them from carrying out important work.
The spokesperson of the US State Department also said that the United States has full support for the investigative work of Bangladeshi journalists.
Mathew Miller was also asked about the Hasina-Modi bilateral meeting on the issue of peace, security and stability in the free and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
