Padma Bridge earns Tk 1,648 crore in two years
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that 1.27 crore vehicles crossed the Padma Bridge in two years from June 25, 2022 to June 24, 2024. During this period, toll collection of Tk 1,648 crore was collected on the bridge in two years.
He said this at a press conference held at Setu Bhaban in Banani in the capital on Tuesday (June 25).
'The people of the country are the beneficiaries of the Padma Bridge. Built at a cost of Tk 32,605 crore, 3 crore people of these 21 districts are enjoying the benefits. So far, Tk 948 crore has been paid to the government's finance division in six installments with the income from the toll of the bridge. The seventh installment of Tk 314 crore will be handed over to the Finance Division through the Prime Minister on Thursday,' Obaidul Quader said.
He said, 'Two years ago, on this day, the construction of the Padma Bridge was completed. With the courage of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, this Padma Bridge has been built.'
Obaidul Quader said that the people involved in the construction of the bridge have been given time to meet the Prime Minister on June 27 at Ganobhaban.
Notably, PM Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Padma Bridge on June 25, 2022. Vehicles started moving on the bridge from June 26. After that, the train movement was inaugurated on October 10, 2023, but the train movement started with passengers from November 1 last year.
