Ex-PM Sheikh Hasina threatened that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia should be thrown from the Padma Bridge and the interim government's chief advisor Dr. Yunus should be dipped into the Padma River.

A case has been filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in this regard.

Saurabh Priya Pal, former vice president of Chattogram Mahanagar Chhatra Dal filed the case at Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Deb's court on Sunday (September 15).

Advocate Rezaul Islam, the plaintiff's lawyer, said that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was charged with threatening to kill BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and the interim government's chief adviser Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

The court accepted the statement. The investigation is to be led by an officer of the rank of additional superintendent of police or assistant superintendent of police, with a report to be submitted within 30 days.

The case stems from a statement made by Sheikh Hasina a month before the inauguration of the Padma Bridge on 18 May 2022. In a speech, she remarked that Khaleda Zia should be "thrown" off the bridge. At that time, Nobel laureate Dr. Yunus tried to stop the financing of the Padma Bridge. Following the incident, Hasina said that Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus should be "dipped" into the Padma River.

In the case statement, Saurabh Priya Pal claimed that Sheikh Hasina's remarks constituted a public threat to Khaleda Zia's life. He further alleged that the speech incited violence, encouraging party supporters to act on the threat.

Saurabh Priya Pal, the former president of Nagar Chhatra Dal, the plaintiff in the case, said, "We want a fair investigation."
