ACC Decide to Reinvestigate Padma Bridge Corruption and Conspiracy Case
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to reinvestigate the Padma Bridge corruption and conspiracy case.
On Tuesday (December 24), the ACC's Director General (Prevention), Akhtar Hossain, briefed the media on various matters in Segunbagicha, Dhaka.
He mentioned that an investigative team has been formed, and members of this team are sending letters to various departments to collect documentary evidence. This is part of their investigation process. Once the information is received, the team will review it, and individuals related to the allegations will be interrogated to help support the case.
The ACC confirmed that the reinvestigation of the Padma Bridge corruption and conspiracy case has been initiated. In addition, the ACC has decided to reinvestigate the case related to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the corruption involving the National Museum's planetarium. Sheikh Hasina had initially been named as a defendant in three cases but was later exonerated.
Furthermore, the ACC's investigation team revealed that they have sent letters to the Chief Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office seeking information regarding the investigation into the embezzlement of 21,000 crore taka in 8 projects under the former Prime Minister's oversight.
Additionally, they have requested documents related to the financial transactions of Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy, her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, and Rehana's daughter Tulip Siddiq, both domestically and internationally, from the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU).
In a letter sent on Tuesday from the ACC's headquarters, the investigation team has requested detailed information on offshore bank accounts and transactions involving suspected individuals. They also asked for the personal documents of the accused, as well as records from the Election Commission and the Immigration and Passport Office.
On December 18, a five-member team was formed to investigate the corruption allegations against Sheikh Hasina and her family members.
