Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) started an eviction drive at the illegally built Sadeeq Agro Farm occupying canal and road space in the capital's Mohammadpur area.

The evacuation operation started on Thursday (June 27) around 10:30 am.

Several cows of Sadeeq Agro already removed after receiving the news of the raid. Apart from this, they also removed some temporary structures illegally occupied on the canal and road sites.

Earlier on Wednesday (June 26) a letter was sent to the Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) from the Property Department of DNCC asking for deployment of necessary police force to raid Sadeeq Agro. The letter signed by Chief Property Officer Mohammad Mahe Alam.

In the letter, it is said that the illegal constructions of Sadeeq Agro Limited in place of the canals and roads along with the illegal constructions will be removed in the vicinity of Mohammadpur embankment under Zone-5 of Dhaka North City. The evacuation operation will be carried out on Thursday morning.

A letter has also been sent to Dhaka Metropolitan Police asking for three platoons of male police and one platoon of female police from the DNCC's Property Division to assist the operation.

In this regard, an official of Zone-5 of Dhaka North City told the media, 'We have information that they (Sadeeq Agro) filled the Ramchandrapur canal and farmed it.' They were given notice earlier too. But the farm authorities didn't care about it.

Incidentally, Dhaka North City Chief Executive Officer Mir Khairul Alam said that the recent discussion and criticism is not related with this campaign. The owner of this sadeeq agro farm is Imran Hossain, president of Bangladesh Dairy Farmers' Association (BDFA).
