Dengue Claims 10 Lives in January

In January 2025, dengue claimed the lives of 10 individuals, while 1,161 people were hospitalized due to the virus, according to a report released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday (January 31).

Among the deceased, seven were from Dhaka's two city corporations—six from Dhaka South City Corporation and one from Dhaka North City Corporation. The remaining three fatalities occurred outside the capital. Of those hospitalized, 421 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka, while the rest received treatment in various healthcare facilities across the country.

In 2024, dengue was responsible for 575 deaths. Dhaka South City Corporation recorded the highest number of fatalities, with 239 deaths, followed by 104 deaths in Dhaka North City Corporation.

Throughout last year, 101,214 people were hospitalized due to dengue. The highest number of cases were recorded in Dhaka North City Corporation, with 21,254 admissions, while 17,879 patients were hospitalized in Dhaka South City Corporation.

It is noteworthy that 2023 saw the highest dengue outbreak in the country's history, with 321,179 reported infections and 1,705 deaths.
