The Appellate Division upheld the judgment of the High Court that declaring the decision to cancel the freedom fighter quota system in the first and second class government jobs invalid.

On Thursday (July 4), the Appellate Bench headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan upheld the court's verdict. As a result, the judgment of the High Court was upheld.

After receiving the full verdict, the Supreme Court ordered a regular appeal on the quota. At that time, Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan also wants to know whether the verdict of the Supreme Court can be changed by protesting on the streets.

The application was placed at number 8 on Thursday's agenda for hearing.

In the context of the quota reform movement, the High Court ruled on June 5 declaring invalid the decision to cancel the 30 percent freedom fighter quota in the recruitment of first and second class government jobs five years ago. As a result of this verdict, the 30 percent freedom fighter quota for first and second class government jobs came back.

Later, the state applied to the Appellate Division Chamber Court by seeking suspension of the verdict. But after the preliminary hearing on June 9, the application was sent to the regular bench of the Appellate Division.

It may be noted that until the abolition of the quota system in 2018, 56 percent of the posts in government jobs were reserved for various quotas. Among them, there was 30 percent for children of freedom fighters, 10 percent for women, 10 percent for districts, 5 percent for minority groups, and 1 percent for disabled.
