Students block railway tracks, train movement in Dhaka halted

The anti quota students have blocked the Amtali and Kawran Bazar rail lines in the capital demanding the cancellation of quota. As a result, the rail communication between Dhaka and the rest of the country has been halted.

Dhaka Railway Police Station Kamalapur Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ferdous Ahmed Biswas confirmed the information on Wednesday afternoon (July 10).

He said after 12 noon, the quota protesting students blocked the railway line by throwing wood in railway tracks. As soon as we got the news, got here quickly. Train communication between Dhaka and the rest of the country is temporarily halted.

The protesting students said, according to our pre-announced program, the railway line has been blocked today. The movement will continue until the demands are met. They also said that the movement will be further accelerated gradually.

The quota protesting students bloked the railway line by throwing wooden logs and bamboos on the railway line. They have also blocked the barricade gates of railway crossings. No vehicles can move through the rail gate. However, ambulances and vehicles carrying patients are being allowed to move.
