No objection to anti-quota movement, but action to take if loss of life and property: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the anti-quota movement is free from objection, but action will be taken if there is loss of life and property.
She said this at a press conference about her visit to China at Gonobhaban on Sunday (July 14) at 4 pm.
The prime minister said, 'The doors of the court are open for the agitators, I have no authority to do anything before the final verdict of the court. Apart from this, if violence is committed in the name of the movement, action will be taken according to the law.'
She said 'The court issue should be resolved in the court itself, the quota agitators have no idea about the judicial system and the constitution of the country.'
She also said, 'I canceled the quota in 2018 due to agitation and violence. However, there has been a problem with the cancellation of the quota.'
'Once they (students) were doing such a movement. Not movement that was violent. Vandalism and arson arose. Then I got annoyed and said that I dropped all the quotas. Then I said that if the quota is removed, see what happens. Now see what the situation is!'
She said, 'Why so much anger against the great liberation war and brave freedom fighters? Grandchildren of freedom fighters will not get the quota, then will Razakar's grandchildren get the quota? We cannot give that.'
She also said, 'Who gave them the right to speak against the freedom fighters? They (freedom fighters) fought their lives to liberate the country. How dare to speak against them? They don't like the liberation war now.'
