Barapukuria coal disappearance: ACC to investigate

To investigate the incident of looting one lakh 42 thousand tons of coal from the Barapukuria coal mine Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has begun its activities. A three-member committee was formed to investigate the incident of corruption.

The committee was formed led by ACC Deputy Director Shamsul Alam where Assistant Director ASM Sajjad Hossain and Deputy Assistant Director ASM Tajul Islam were acting as members of it.

ACC Deputy Director (Public Relation) Pranab Kumar Bhattachariya said, ACC Director Quazi Shafiqul Alam was given the supervising charge of the investigation.

He said, as per ACC regulations the committee was asked to submit the investigation report within 15 working days.

Meanwhile, four top mine officers were punished over the incident of coal disappearance. A three-member committee was formed headed by one Petrobangla officer to investigate the incident.

Mining department in charge of the coal mine General Manager ATM Nuruzzaman Chowdhury and Deputy General Manager Md. Khademul Islam were suspended temporarily. Managing Director Engineer Md. Habib Uddin Ahmed and Secretary (General Manager Administration) Abul Quashem were withdrawn.

Production of Barapukuria coal based thermal power plant was declared closed on Sunday night due to lack of coal supply.

Power Development Board (PDB) is now looking for alternative way as eight districts of Rangpur division has fallen into power crisis following closure of 525 mega watt capacity power plant.
