Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sought cooperation from Japan to speed up the operation of the two affected metro rail stations in Mirpur-10 and Kazipara.

Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh IWAMA Kiminori paid a courtesy call to the Prime Minister at the Prime Minister's Office on Saturday (July 27). The Prime Minister sought this assistance during the courtesy meeting. After the meeting, Prime Minister's Press Secretary Mohammad Nayeemul Islam Khan briefed the journalists.

The Japanese ambassador said they will first assess the damage to the metro rail stations. Then decide how they can help Bangladesh reopen the stations.

The Japanese ambassador expressed his condolences over the casualties caused by the massive riots across the country centered on the quota reform movement.

In the meeting, the Prime Minister said that miscreants have damaged government facilities that were built for public welfare, security, and service. They attacked the establishments which were beneficial to the people and those were the targets of the attackers. This is very heartbreaking for me.

She also said in the last 15 years they have built the structures by working tirelessly.

Japan's ambassador expressed hope that the law and order situation will be normalized as before.

The ambassador became emotional while talking about the damaged metro rail station. He said few people were behind the attack on metro rail and a large number of people were the beneficiaries. The sweat and tears of many were involved in the construction of Metrorail.

Prime Minister's Advisor Salman Fazlur Rahman and Ambassador-at-Large M. Ziauddin, Chief Secretary M. Tofazzel Hossain Mia, and Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Masud Bin Momen were present in the meeting.
