Facebook, TikTok and some other social media sites were blocked for 14 days in the country for spreading violent content surrounding the quota reform movement and not following their community guidelines.

Social media can be used normally from Bangladesh from 2 pm on Wednesday (July 31).

Earlier, mobile internet was shut down on the night of July 17 and broadband internet on the night of July 18. Five days later, broadband and 10 days later mobile internet was restored, but some social media sites including Facebook and TikTok were blocked. However, since the launch of broadband connections, a large number of people have been able to use Facebook and closed social media using VPN. State Minister for Information Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, was also active on Facebook throughout the time.

A meeting was held with those social media outlets virtually at BTRC on Wednesday morning. State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, BTRC Chairman Engineer Mohiuddin Ahmed and senior officials of the organization were present. However, it is not yet known who attended the meeting as a representative of Meta.

After the meeting, Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that the cache server of all social media in the country will be opened by Wednesday (July 31) afternoon.
