Trains stopped on several routes due to floods
Nine districts of the country have been hit by severe floods due to incessant rains and rising water in India's upstream water. Water has risen on highways and railway lines. As a result, Bangladesh Railway has stopped train movement on Dhaka-Sylhet and Dhaka-Chattogram routes.
In a circular on Thursday (August 22), Bangladesh Railway announced the suspension of train movement on those two routes.
It is said that railway tracks have been submerged in many places in Sylhet and Chattogram region due to sudden floods. In such a situation, all intra-city, commuter and mail trains have been suspended due to the risk. This order shall remain in force till further orders.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Office said that due to the influence of active monsoon, there may be heavy to very heavy rains in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions from 10 am today in the next 48 hours. Due to heavy rainfall, there is a risk of landslides in some parts of the hilly areas of Chattogram division.
