Home Affairs Advisor Directs Authorities to Take Measures to Stop Border Killings
The Home Affairs Advisor Lt. Gen. (retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that there was a little discussion about border killing. "I have ordered the concerned authority to take measures to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. Hope this kind of incident will not happen in future," he added.
The Home Affairs Advisor stated this in response to questions from journalists after the meeting on Durga Puja law and order at the Secretariat on Tuesday (September 10).
Mentioning another problem that arises during the puja he said, as our people go back and forth, people from Bangladesh go to India to see the puja, and people from India come to Bangladesh to see the puja. I have requested everyone here, you have a good Puja Mandap in the border belt. So that our people do not go beyond to see the puja. People from the other side should not come.
The advisor said, "I will request you (journalists) so that such incidents do not happen in the future. You will also help me."
He also said that Hindus will celebrate Durga Puja in a festive atmosphere like other years. Durga Puja will be celebrated in 32 thousand 666 pavilions across the country. Apart from this, puja will be celebrated in 205 pavilions in two cities of Dhaka. On the occasion of Puja, overall law and order will be strict throughout the country.
The Home Advisor has also requested Hindus to stop playing musical instruments during Azan and Muslims to stop delivering Azan during Durga Puja.
It is to be noted that, between 2009 and 2020, at least 522 Bangladeshis lost their lives in such incidents. Documentation by another rights organization, Odhikar, reveals that at least 1,236 Bangladeshis were killed and 1,145 injured in shootings by the Indian border force between 2000 and 2020.
