Former DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia Arrested
Former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia has been arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). The arrest took place on Wednesday (September 11) near the Mohakhali flyover in the capital, confirmed Lt. Col. Munim Ferdous, Director of RAB's Legal and Media Wing.
Asaduzzaman was arrested in connection with a case filed at Khilgaon police station in Dhaka. Further legal actions are pending.
Following the resignation and escape of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5 in the face of mass protests, several Awami League ministers, MPs, and leaders have gone into hiding. While some managed to leave the country, many have been arrested.
Notable figures arrested since Hasina’s departure include former Law Minister Anisul Haque and former Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F. Rahman on August 13. Others arrested include former Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku, State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak, former Water Resources Minister Ramesh Chandra Sen, and former Social Welfare Minister Dipu Moni, among many others.
