Italy has reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the outstanding work visa issues for Bangladeshi workers as early as possible, according to Ambassador Alessandro, who met with Bangladesh’s newly appointed Foreign Secretary, Md. Jashim Uddin. During their courtesy call, Ambassador Alessandro conveyed Italy's intention to enhance migration cooperation with Bangladesh, particularly to curb irregular migration and facilitate legal pathways for skilled labor mobility.

Ambassador Alessandro highlighted Italy’s position as a key destination for Bangladeshi workers, expressing a desire to address the current backlog of work visa applications, which has been compounded by interference from organized criminal networks and a surge in visa requests. He assured that the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is working to fast-track the processing of genuine visa applications, with additional resources being allocated to the Italian Embassy in Dhaka.

Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin acknowledged the vital contributions of the Bangladeshi diaspora in Italy to both countries’ economies and urged the Italian government to expedite the resolution of pending visa applications. He also welcomed Italy's stringent measures against human trafficking and migrant smuggling.

Both sides expressed optimism that the pending Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on migration and mobility between Bangladesh and Italy would be finalized soon. This agreement is expected to promote legal migration, curb irregular movements, and strengthen cooperation on repatriation efforts.

The meeting underscored the mutual commitment of both nations to deepen their bilateral relationship, particularly in the area of migration, with a focus on enhancing opportunities for skilled workers.
