Chief Adviser Directs Immediate Solutions for Dhaka's Traffic Crisis
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has instructed experts from the police and engineering universities to devise solutions for easing traffic congestion in Dhaka.
During a meeting on Monday (September 16) with senior officials of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and traffic system experts from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Yunus emphasized the urgent need to address the city's severe traffic issues.
A press release from the Chief Adviser's office stated that he called on the DMP to develop a "quick and effective solution" for the traffic problems affecting Dhaka's 20 million residents. "We must reduce traffic congestion and find immediate solutions," Yunus urged.
BUET experts were tasked with identifying solutions for at least one key traffic corridor, utilizing student involvement and local expertise to revamp the city's signaling systems.
Professor Moazzem Hossain, a traffic systems expert, noted that Dhaka's traffic congestion costs the city at least Tk40,000 crore annually.
DMP Additional Commissioner K. Nazmul Hasan reported improvements in traffic flow due to recent traffic police deployment, with full deployment expected by the end of next week
