Interim Government Can't be Allowed to Fail: Tarique Rahman
Tarique Rahman, Acting Chairman of BNP commented that even if all the activities of the interim government are not satisfactory, they cannot be allowed to fail.
He said this at a rally organized by BNP on the occasion of 'World Democracy Day' in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan on Tuesday (September 17) afternoon.
Tarique Rahman said, "We must remember that the failure of this government is the failure of all of us. Therefore, the interim government cannot be allowed to fail in any way. But they must be careful not to cause their failure."
He said, "Dictator Hasina made the country completely fragile. Made the country import-dependent and sub-dependent. That mafia gang has bankrupted even the country's banks."
Stating that the last 15 years were occupied by the mafia, the Acting Chairman of BNP said that in the last decade and a half, more than 17 lakh crores of tk have been smuggled abroad. The mafia gang has not only destroyed the economy, they have destroyed the judicial system of the country. The extent to which a country is civilized is reflected in the behavior of law enforcement agencies.
"Though the head of the mafia has fled the country, their gang is still active in the administration," Tariq Rahman adding that they are involved in a conspiracy. Therefore, the interim government cannot be allowed to fail. People have to cooperate with them. However, the interim government must remain accountable. The interim government has to undertake several reforms.
The acting chairman of BNP further said that mass uprising was an exception. People's first act will be the number of voters increased by two and a half crores. But none of them could vote. BNP believes that the country cannot move forward leaving half of the country's women and young generation.
Tarique also said that some more time will have to pass for the journey to a discrimination-free Bangladesh. A change in power means a qualitative change in the state and politics. The government has to cooperate until there is a people's government.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir presided over the rally. The assembly is coordinated by BNP Standing Committee member Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain and BNP Joint Secretary General Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel.
BNP's Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, Dhaka City North Member Secretary Aminul Haque, and Dhaka City South Member Secretary Tanveer Ahmed Rabin jointly conducted the rally.
