21 Died in Dengue in a Week, Pressure Increasing in Hospitals

Aedes mosquito-borne disease dengue has started increasing in the country. Along with death, the number of infected is also increasing by leaps and bounds. Patient pressure is increasing in hospitals.

According to the dengue report of the Health Department, 21 people died of dengue this week (Saturday-Friday), compared to 11 last week. Apart from this, 4,224 people were admitted to the hospital due to dengue this week, which was 3,237 last week.

Daily Statistics
According to statistics of the last seven days:

  • 3 deaths and 548 hospitalizations were reported on September 14
  • 1 death and 486 hospitalizations were reported on September 15
  • 1 death and 267 hospitalizations were reported on September 16
  • 5 deaths and 872 hospitalizations were reported on September 17
  • 6 deaths and 865 hospitalizations were reported on September 18.
  • 3 deaths and 887 hospitalizations were reported on September 19
  • 2 deaths and 299 hospitalizations were reported on September 20

So far this year, 22,266 people have been admitted to hospital due to dengue. Among them, 19 thousand 577 people got clearance. 124 people died.

Doctors said that July-October is dengue season. The prevalence of dengue is increasing with time. Mosquito infestation has increased due to the lack of activities of city corporations in mosquito control. As a result, dengue cases are increasing.

Asaduzzaman, Brigadier General Director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital said that 20 to 30 new patients are coming every day. So the number of patients is more than beds. Trying to provide maximum service.

Atiqur Rahman, a specialized doctor at DMC Hospital said that dengue is not seasonal now, it happens all year round. It is increasing when it starts raining. In addition to the use of anti-mosquito drugs for the prevention of dengue, the City Corporation should conduct campaigns everywhere. At the same time, everyone should be aware.

Entomologist Dr. Manjur Chowdhury says that appropriate measures should be taken with proper manpower by carrying out the survey properly.

It should be noted that 3,21,179 patients were affected by dengue and 1,705 people died in the history of the country in 2023.
