Rice & Vegetable Prices Soar
Although the extortion has decreased, the market syndicate has not been broken yet. The price of everyday products is increasing every day. Traders say this situation is due to recent floods and rains. But soon this situation will get rid of. Everything will be normal.
On Friday (September 27), it was seen that the prices of most vegetables have increased by Tk 10 to Tk 20 per kg in Dhaka's various markets. The price of chilli is fluctuating. However, egg and chicken prices vary from market to market. There is no good news in the rice market.
Round eggplants are being sold at the rate of Tk80 to 90 per kg in some markets including Dhaka's Karwan Bazar, and Agargaon Kacha Bazar, which is Tk10 to 20 more than last week. Pointed gourd, lady's finger, and snake gourd are being sold at Tk50 to 60, which was close to Tk40 last week. Similarly, gourds, bitter gourds and long brinjals are being sold at Tk70 to 80, increasing from Tk10 to 20.
However, there is no end to complaints about the price of green chillies. Manjurul Islam, a private job holder who came to Karwan Bazar, said that the price of green chillies is out of reach. Somewhere Tk200 and somewhere Tk240 per kg is being sold. I bought it four or five days ago for Tk160.
Potatoes are being sold at the rate of Tk50 to 55 per kg. Imported onion is selling at Tk90 to 100 per kg and good quality domestic onion is selling at Tk110 to 115 per kg as before. Like last week, domestic garlic is being sold at Tk200 to 210 and imported garlic at Tk210 to 220 this week.
The rice market is not under control. Coarse rice is being sold at Tk50 to 55, medium rice at Tk55 to 60 and fine rice at Tk64 to 78 per kg.
Al-Amin Hossain, a construction worker who came to Agargaon raw market, said that our income is low. So everything has to be calculated. But with the fluctuating prices of eggs and broiler chickens lately, I am afraid to ask for these prices. If the government does not break the market syndicate with a strong hand, then our common people will continue to suffer. Won't go away.
This reporter talked to several vegetable sellers regarding the price of daily commodities. They said that most of the vegetables are getting spoiled due to continuous rains and floods. That's why supply is low. So the price is high. But this situation will not last long. Everything will be normal.
Egg and chicken traders say that the supply of vegetables in the market is comparatively less. That's why everyone is turning to eggs and chicken. But recent floods have affected demand and production as many farms in several districts have been submerged. This is mainly why the price of chicken and eggs has increased.
