BNP Urges Chief Adviser to Announce Election Roadmap
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that various election-related issues were discussed during a meeting with the Chief Adviser. He mentioned that the party raised the need for reforms in the Election Commission and the overall election process.
The meeting took place on Saturday afternoon (October 5) at the residence of Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser, in Jamuna, with a BNP delegation present.
Following the meeting, Mirza Fakhrul told reporters that they discussed suspending the Election Commission appointment law and urged that a new commission be formed immediately based on a consensus among the major political parties.
Mirza Fakhrul also mentioned that BNP called on the Chief Adviser to announce a roadmap for the upcoming election. The party further demanded the repeal of the law placing voter ID card registration under the Ministry of Home Affairs, through an ordinance.
Additionally, BNP requested that no controversial figures be included in any committee formed for election reforms. Mirza Fakhrul said that BNP has also called for the cancellation of all Union Parishad (Chairman-Member) posts.
He added that BNP demanded legal action against all commissioners from the last three Election Commissions (2014, 2018, and 2024), accusing them of conducting fraudulent, controversial, and biased elections.
