An international geopolitical conference begins today in the capital, with over 200 speakers, 300 delegates, and 800 participants from more than 80 countries. The inaugural speech will be delivered by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor to the interim government.

Zillur Rahman, Executive Director of the Center for Governance Studies (CGS), shared this information at a press conference on Friday (November 15).

He stated, “We are honored to have Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor, as our inaugural speaker.”

Zillur Rahman also mentioned that CGS has been organizing the annual Bay of Bengal Conversations for the past two years. He noted that there were various obstacles from the government in previous years regarding the event, but this year they are receiving much cooperation. “This is our third year, and we are organizing our largest event yet,” he added.

The Executive Director further explained that recent events have opened new pathways for dialogue and cooperation, offering a significant opportunity to redefine democratic principles. The conference will explore challenges ranging from democracy, human rights, and climate change to economic development, security, technological changes, and cross-border issues.

“We believe this conference will play a significant role in enhancing diplomatic relations and establishing peace among countries in this region. Particularly, this conference will diplomatically benefit the reconstruction of the new Bangladesh,” he said. “We wish to discuss all issues, including politics, human rights, misinformation, and rumors.”

Munira Khan, Chair of CGS, added, “From this conference, we aim to discuss global issues such as democracy, peace, and human rights. The agenda of this conference is for the people, not any political party. We wish to address all issues and their future.”

The three-day conference, with the theme “A Fractured World”, will be held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka, from today until November 18.
